Katie + Kara · New York City Botanic Gardens Wedding

While I was in photography school (obligatory shoutout to Isaacson School of New Media at Colorado Mountain College), the professors would often receive emails from people looking for photographers. They would refer out the emails to students who they felt fit the job. Derek forwarded me an email one day from a girl named Katie who was traveling to Aspen from New York City to propose to her girlfriend, Kara, at Maroon Bells.

Kara and Katie adore the fall and wanted to come to the mountains during peak autumn colors. Katie obviously saw this as a perfect opportunity to pop the question and I had the pleasure of helping plan out this surprise proposal. We had so much fun and walked around afterward and hiked a little bit, capturing more photos after the proposal.

If you’d like to see the proposal, I blogged it here.

A few months went by and Katie ended up reaching out with the best proposition. They wanted me to shoot their wedding in New York City!!! I was SO ecstatic, elated, surprised, stoked.. there aren’t enough adjectives. For a client who lives across the country, in Manhattan of all places (imagine how many incredible photographers live in NYC), to reach out and say they can’t imagine anyone else capturing their wedding is a compliment of the highest caliber. It lights up my soul and warms my heart. This is why I do what I do!!

The wedding was held at the New York City Botanic Gardens in Bronx, NY. To say it was stunning is an understatement. The venue, the time of year, the first look, the gardens, details, blue hour ceremony, reception inside the old cigar mill.. every. single. moment. was breathtaking.

I hope you guys adore the photos as much as I do. I’ve been so excited to finally blog this special wedding.
